I just happened to be walking down Chestnut Street and I saw this couple kissing in front of me and I took these shots. What stood out to me at the time was the energy coming from their passionate embrace and kiss, as well as the bright neon lights behind them. There was something almost magical about this fleeting moment.

I was born and raised in San Francisco, and I imagine it has to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I took these shots tonight and thought I would share them with you. This first shot is of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and San Francisco Skyline with palm trees in the foreground.

I really like this next photo which shows the Bay Bridge traffic heading into San Francisco, with the San Francisco skyline in the background.

This next shot is also of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and I took this one in portrait.

This next shot is of Coit Tower, looking up from underneath

This last image is of the Palace Of Fine Arts located in the San Francisco Marina, and it looks even better today, as it the restoration project was just completed on January 14, 2011, and they added much better lighting to it as you can see.

Remember when everybody used payphones and now you NEVER see them anymore since everybody has an iPhone. This payphone is at the end of "z" line.

I took all the shots in this series with me iPhone 3Gs, which takes much, much better photos than my original iPhone. The whole point of having a camera in my iPhone is that I shouldn't have to carry around a separate point & shoot.

This first shot is great because the little kid was so cute!!!

I took this next shot in front of the Marina theater and I thought it was supremely ironic that the dude with the mohawk was sitting, reading with the sign behind him that reads "Capitalism. A Love Story."

I was having a hard time deciding which way I liked this photo better: cropped or un-cropped so I put up both...

I shot this photo on the bus, since on my way to Jury Duty. I was tripping on how thrashed this dude's laptop was, and in particular, I was tripping on how he had used duct-tape as a hinge!?!

I haven't taken a bus in San Francisco for many years and I was tripping on how many people had iPhones!!!!! In this next photo, all three girls on the left side have iPhones and they are all ADDing out on them. Also the dude standing up in the center-right has his white fashion-victim iPhone earbuds on.

Something in this photo caught my eye, but by the time I got into position to take the photo everybody was staring at me ;-))) Kind of funny!!!

This next shot was kind of interesting. I took it in front of the Coffee Roastery on Chestnut Street and I thought it was fascinating that the shop was closed, but the sign said open.

I was having a drink with a girlfriend of mine on her 37th Birthday. Actually, I don't really drink so I was having water and she was drinking a Cosmopolitan. When she left to go to the bathroom at the Balboa Cafe, I took this shot. Strangers In The Night, exchanging glances, wondering in the night, what were the chances...

This next shot speaks for itself in a wild-monkey-dance kind of way ;-))))

When I was serving on Jury Duty at the San Francisco Hall Of Justice, I noticed the payphones were removed from and I thought this made a bold declarative statement about modern San Francisco society–since everybody has an iphone ;-)))

This last shot seems kind of self-explanatory to me. Cigarettes, put out on-top of a garbage can. You get the idea...

The Spanish Riding School of Vienna...

The Spanish Riding School of Vienna troop of 30 Dancing Lipizzaner stallions were rescued by U.S. General George Patton 63 years ago. The Lipazzaner breed has existed for over 425 years.

The Spanish Riding School of Vienna was founded in 1572, and the school maintains equestrian traditions and skills passed on for centuries, dating back to ancient Greece and refined in Vienna over hundreds of years.

In war-torn Austria during World War II, the school and its horses stood at the brink of destruction, but General Patton's 2nd Cavalry saved them. The story was recreated in the 1963 Disney film "Miracle of the White Stallions," starring Robert Taylor, Eddie Albert and James Franciscus, and released on DVD a few years ago.

Jim Marshall, the Rock photographer had his first Whiteside Gallery show 30 years ago–back in July of 1978.

Since then Jim has had 3 great books of his work published, all of which have been very successful.

He is currently having the largest show of his career in the new San Francisco photo gallery named Gallery 291, located at 291 Post Street.

Gallery 291 is owned and operated by Ed Carey, who is a very talented photographer in his own right.

Over the years I have spent much time in other photo galleries and I must say I have never experienced a photography studio that is as well designed and laid out as Ed Carey's Gallery 291.

Ed has paid attention to every single detail and left no stone unturned.

As you can see from the video and photos, Gallery 291 has spectacular views of Union Square, which in many ways is as interesting to look at as the photos on the wall.

I must say I am extremely impressed with what Ed Carey has done with putting together his brilliant new Gallery 291.

It is also amazing how much it reminds me of the original Whiteside Gallery, not just because he is having a show with Jim Marshall, but because it is so similar to the Original Whiteside Gallery in layout and concept.

Jim Marshall's photographic portfolio is wide and broad. The center image above of Miles Davis is incredible.

Jim is probably most famous for his photos of Musicians, Primarily Rock & Roll, as well as Jazz.

Michael and I met three decades ago when we were both attending Arizona State University.

Michael is and extremely talented photographer who specializes in Environmental Portraiture, meaning he takes portraits of people in their natural environments.

Michael took this photo of me in 1987 in my Quadrangles apartment in Tempe Arizona. Of course the time on the clock is 10:10.

Attack Of The Killer Tomato Worms...

Imagine my shock when I found nearly 50 of these voracious 3.5-4” giants had decimated my tomato plants. Only 24 hours earlier I had a vast green canopy laden with nearly ripe and oh so delicious grape tomatoes.

Before I dispatched these unwanted guests with my shop scissors, I felt compelled to photograph and study these fascinating creatures.

The Tomato Hornworm is a caterpillar, which if it survives becoming parasitized by wasp larva, becomes the Five-Spotted Hawk Moth (a little known pollinator of things that bloom in the night).

Fortunately the intimidating red horn is only for show.

Samantha Whiteside was close friends with Ansel Adams and the first show in the Whiteside Gallery was of course given to Ansel. Samantha Whiteside first got the idea to open the Whiteside Gallery when she was working with Ansel Adams at a San Francisco photo studio named Reproductive Graphics.

I have a precious story to share with you about the famous aerial photographer, Robert Cameron. Mr. Cameron is 97 years young and is famous for his Above books, which include, Above San Francisco, Above Paris, and Above New York.

Back in October of 2000 I was at a cocktail party in San Francisco and I was having a fascinating conversation with the old boy about photography as an art form. Robert told me about an argument he had in 1970 with his contemporary and close friend, Ansel Adams.

They were arguing about whether photography was an art form or not. Robert was arguing that it was not. Adams quickly changed Cameron's mind when he responded, "Photography is the greatest invention for recording and communicating, but if someone receives an emotional response from one of my images, then to him it is an art form."

There, you have it! Precious insight between two of the greatest photographers in history.

John Hanford is a San Francisco based photographer, and in my opinion, John is one of the most talented photographers whose work I have ever seen. His range is absolute and his creative flair in without equal.
